Broadband access to the full use of the communications, commercial and social networking capabilities of the Internet is increasingly critical to the economic, educational and social welfare of the World's populace. Peoples in geographical areas without this lifeline resource are suffering, and will increasingly continue to suffer a growing disparity with their 'better connected' counterparts.

It is imperative to get all of the world connected as rapidly as possible in order to reduce the incidence of poverty, ignorance, enslavement amongst those without access. Correcting this inequity would go a great distance toward narrowing the dangerous divide between countries and cultures -- the type of divide that historically has fomented wars.

Broadening broadband would help to reduce many of the dividers between members of the international community which lead to hostilities. And for those of you who are strictly pragmatic capitalists... this would lead to the opening of new markets and labor forces. Simply stated, "How can you reach prospective customers and employees who cannot receive your signal?"

A brief report from some time ago (courtesy of the UN Newswire) cites the United Nations' goals with respect to the proliferation of broadband access.

• UN commission sets new broadband goals
  Governments around the world need to ensure half of the world's poor are connected with broadband access by 2015 and that at least 40% of households in developing countries are connected, according to targets set by the United Nations Broadband Commission for Digital Development. The commission calls on governments to work with the private sector to meet the targets. The Washington Post/The Associated Press (10/25)

IN PRAISE OF STRATEGIC INTERDEPENDENCE

Dear Friends:

The premise is a simple one. each of us, as an individual, and as a businessperson, is a potential international ambassador, exerting influence upon persons by sharing our thoughts, our differences, our stories and our tremendous areas of common interest and concern. The things that unite us far outweigh those things that divide us.

The greater the percentage and proliferation of smaller, international, entrepreneurial and internet-based businesses, the closer we all move as Humanity United toward world peace. It is increasingly difficult to willfully hurt someone whom you regard as a friend, or someone upon whom you have come to depend for things. Depersonalization, the hate-mongers' weapon of choice in initiating such activities as pograms, ethnic cleansing, enslavement and all brands of genocide, becomes very difficult to mobilize when all parties 1) have become interpersonally familiar with eachother, and 2) have come to depend upon one another. Reducing this to commerce as metaphor:

"I will not attack my customers. I will not attack my suppliers. I will not attack my strategic business partners. To do so would not make economic sense."

I am cautiously optimistic that such organizations as THE NATIONAL NETWORKER COMPANIES and numerous other non-governmental business networking and social media conduits will facilitate the development and frequency of more individualized civilian communications and international entrepreneurship.

Considering Fox's political orientation ("Fair and Balanced, as long as we're all the way to the right"), this says something 1) either about the underlying feelings of the average US viewer despite the alleged lawlessness and destructiveness of the Bush/ Cheney Administration, or 2) about the entertainment value of the newscasters, commentators and pundits on Fox versus the other more centrist or less conspiuously politicized networks).
